The Choirs of Christ Church Cathedral

Welcome to the Choirs of Christ Church Cathedral!

Young and old, women and men, lifetime Anglicans and newcomers to the Episcopal Church, musical professionals and seasoned amateurs who simply like to sing, we are four different choirs, each with gifts to offer to our Cathedral’s tradition of excellence and joy in worship.

Our Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys (founded in 1883) and our Cathedral Girls’ Choir (founded in 1945) are among a very few of their kind in North America, and are patterned in the centuries-old English Cathedral choir tradition. Our Girl and Boy choristers come from throughout the Indianapolis area and from a variety of schools and religious backgrounds. We offer our choristers weekly vocal and music theory instruction, training in sight singing and musicianship, and regular formation as the people of God.

Each Sunday, our Cathedral Girls’ Choir leads our 9 a.m. congregation, and our Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys leads our 11 a.m. congregation. As well, both Choirs offer sung services of Evensong on a regular basis.

Our Girls’ Choir and our Choir of Men and Boys have sung by invitation at some of the great Cathedrals of the United Kingdom and in Europe, including Westminster Abbey, Our Lady of Notre Dame, and Ely Cathedral. As well, we regularly offer concerts, broadcasts and recordings.

We welcome your interest in our Choir ministry, and we hold regular auditions for Boy and Girl Choristers. Our Boys’ Choir is open to boys beginning at age 7. Our Boys’ choir rehearses on Tuesdays from 4:30-5:45 p.m. and on Thursdays from 4:30-8 p.m. (sharing dinner together from 6-6:30 with the larger Choir community). Our Girls’ Choir is open to girls beginning at age 7. We rehearse on Wednesdays from 4:30-5:45 p.m.  For more information, please contact Director of Music, Dr. Dana T. Marsh at DanaM@cccindy.org or at 317-636-4577 ext. 638.

Our Christ Church Singers (founded in 1992) are a mixed-voice adult choir who sing at our weekly 9 a.m. each Sunday. Our repertoire includes varied and exciting music from the Renaissance to the present day. Newcomers are welcome, and may join after an introductory meeting and audition (though the ability to sight read is not required, it is strongly encouraged). This choir rehearses most Wednesdays from 6-7:30 p.m. For more information, please contact Director of Music, Dr. Dana T. Marsh at DanaM@cccindy.org.

Our Coro Hispano (founded in 2000) leads the people of our 1 p.m. Santa Eucharistia each Sunday in the glory and praise of God. Our choir intersects the best of the Anglican tradition with the best of Latino music and culture (for example, think of a Psalm in Spanish sung to Anglican chant, or a traditional anthem in Quechua, the language of the South American Incas). This choir rehearses each Saturday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., and is led by Dr. Leonardo Panigada. For more information, please contact him at jpanigad@indiana.edu.
