The Very Reverend Stephen E. Carlsen

The Very Rev. Stephen Carlsen came to Christ Church Cathedral from St. John's Cathedral in Denver, Colo., where he had been canon and sub-dean since June 2003. His responsibilities had been to oversee the daily life of the ministries and programs of St. John's Cathedral. In addition, he worked with the Parish Council and the Pastoral Care Commission.

Prior to coming to St. John's, Steve served as rector of Harcourt Parish in Gambier, Ohio from July 1998 until May 2003. He also coordinated religious life on the Campus of Kenyon College, serving as director on the board of Campus Ministries. From 1993 until 1998, Steve served as curate and director of Christian Education at Christ Church, Winnetka, Ill. Before Steve's seminary studies, he was a technical writer for Theo J. Hogan Associates in Burr Ridge, Ill.

Steve has a master's of Divinity from The Divinity School of the University of Chicago. He completed seminary studies at Princeton Theological Seminary and received a bachelor's of arts degree, summa cum laude, from Wheaton College.

In addition to his clergy responsibilities at St. John's Denver, Steve served the Diocese of Colorado as a consultant in congregational development, working with the Church Development Institute and as a member of the Clergy Compensation Committee. Steve also chaired the Task Force on Internet Technology in the Diocese of Ohio and was a member of the Board of Directors of Brent House, the Episcopal Ministry to the University of Chicago.

Dean Carlsen began his ministry with us on Palm Sunday, April 1, 2007.
