The Reverend Canon Gray Lesesne
Cathedral Canon
GrayL@cccindy.org
Who is Gray Lesesne? I am a priest and follower of Christ who is passionate about building vibrant, dynamic, life-giving communities of faith that go forth to transform the world.
What I do at CCC: I am a Canon and Senior Associate. I work with Dean Carlsen in leading the Cathedral staff in day-to-day ministry development, in overseeing and coordinating our clergy and ministry staff, in leading the staff through regular goal setting and follow-up, keeping us focused on mission and ministry, and I assist the Dean and Vestry in developing a strategic vision and plan for long-term congregational growth, health, and vitality.
What nourishes my soul: As a native South Carolinian, I find the Lowcountry marshlands of the Palmetto State to be the place for me where my soul is replenished. I encounter the Holy through smelling the saltiness of pluff mud, in beholding the sight of beautiful Carolina sawgrass in the autumn light, and in watching herons take off and land as they go about their daily chores. Back Home in Indiana (pardon the pun!), I am nourished by my other main interest and passion in life: acting. When I am on the stage, I feel alive, and I love plunging into the life and thoughts of a character and making him real for my audience.
Recommended films/books: My favorite films: Steel Magnolias, Waiting for Guffman, Howard’s End. My favorite books: The Grapes of Wrath, The Complete Works of Flannery O’Connor, Scarlet Sister Mary by Julia Peterkin
Words to live by: "When love and duty are one, then grace is in you and you will enjoy a happiness which passes all understanding." --Somerset Maugham, The Painted Veil
