Canon Rees Olander

Senior Associate
ReesO@cccindy.org

In 2008 I began a new ministry at Christ Church Cathedral, Indianapolis as the parish’s first lay canon and senior associate after previously serving the parish in the ministries of administration, stewardship and community relations. As senior associate I assist the Dean with oversight of daily parish operations and ministries, including staff responsibilities.  I grew up in the Episcopal parish of Christ Cathedral, in Salina, KS, and have worked professionally for my church since 1987, first at St. Luke’s, Atlanta, as parish administrator, adult Christian education coordinator, EFM field coordinator, and a communications director.   As a volunteer, I have also served on the boards of the Consortium of Endowed Episcopal Parishes (CEEP), The Episcopal Network for Stewardship (TENS), The Children’s Bureau, Inc. and its foundation, and St. Richard’s School. I have also  served on the Interfaith Hunger Initiative strategy planning group, as well as leading  workshops for National Association of Episcopal Christian Education Directors, The National Association of Church Business Administration, several parishes, dioceses and not-for-profit organizations.

What I love about CCC: I am inspired by our church's vision to serve all those seeking God in our community, not just those who come through our doors. It is a great privilege to serve in a parish which has the resources to make a positive impact in individual lives in central Indiana and through global mission to Africa and South America. Co-founding the Interfaith Hunger Initiative this past year has been particularly inspiring, as we forge new bonds of friendship through a truly interfaith national model of action and concern for hungry children. I love that in addition to raising money for this outreach ministry, we willingly dedicated staff time and resources to support IHI's operations so that it can limit its infrastructure costs.
