Our Vestry is the group of elected lay leaders of our Cathedral. Three members are elected each year at Annual Meeting for three-year terms. After three years, members rotate off and new leaders are elected. From among the nine elected members, a Junior and Senior Warden are selected to lead the Vestry, who work with the Dean and Rector in setting the direction and vision for the Cathedral. The membership of the Vestry is to be a true reflection of the membership of the parish. We strive to bring together a diverse group who will work together to share their individual gifts to further the mission of the Church in the world. There are clear roles for the Vestry and Clergy outlined by the Canons (laws and rules) for the Episcopal Church and the Diocese of Indianapolis.
In addition to some specific responsibilities to the Diocese and the larger Episcopal Church, the Vestry is charged with managing the property and finances of the parish. However, Vestry members are more than a board of directors; we also serve as spiritual leaders of our congregation. Our work is to seek and to discern God's call for our Cathedral as a House of Prayer for All People, as a Cathedral for our Diocese, and as a Church for our City.
We normally meet on the third Tuesday of each month (except July) from 6:30-8:45 p.m. in the Lilly Room. Our meetings are open to the congregation, and we warmly welcome you to attend.
