We are a congregation of the Episcopal Church, the American branch of the Anglican Communion of churches descended from the Church of England. As Cathedral, CCC is the home and ceremonial seat of the Bishop of Indianapolis, who oversees 46 congregations in central and southern Indiana.
Christ Church Cathedral has a strong commitment to serving the needs of others. Members serve in a variety of ways: through volunteer work, through serving on guilds and committees, and through active worship. In addition, the Cathedral gives financial support to a variety of ministries. Learn more about our local, regional, national and international missions here.
The church was founded in 1837, and the present building was constructed in 1857. It is the oldest structure on Monument Circle and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
As the Cathedral of the Diocese of Indianapolis, we welcome members and visitors from many places. We encourage those who worship here regularly to become official members of the parish. If you were previously a member of another Episcopal congregation, we will gladly contact that church requesting a Letter of Transfer for you. Please contact Ellen Shaughnessy at (317) 636-4577 or ellens@cccindy.org for assistance in becoming an official member.
If you are coming to us from another denomination or tradition, or from no previous church or background, welcome! Our Catechumenate is a course designed to welcome you to the Episcopal Church and to integrate you into our life of prayer and service. While we will gladly contact your former church and request a Letter of Transfer, we also encourage you to take part in our Catechumenate so that you can connect with fellow newcomers, longtime Cathedral members, and our many ministries of prayer and service. For more information, contact The Rev. Canon Gray Lesesne at grayl@cccindy.org or 317-636-4577.
