Canon for Spiritual Formation

Updated Jan. 11, 2022

How are you called?

Are you passionate about empowering the people of God to become more faithful disciples of Jesus Christ who walk in the Way of Love? Do you have gifts to help strengthen and nurture and lead the people of God into more faithful practices of offering radical hospitality, working for justice, and proclaiming God’s peace, reconciliation and love? Are you seeking to be a part of a diverse, fun staff team and congregation that truly enjoys collaboration and is joyful in all we do? Want to live in an affordable midwestern city that Time magazine recently named one of the World’s Greatest Places 2021?

Christ Church Cathedral is a growing, vibrant church in the heart of a revitalizing downtown Indianapolis, surrounded by many millennials and empty nesters moving into the neighborhood with whom we want to make a connection. We seek a Canon for Spiritual Formation who will empower us to entirely reimagine formation and Christian Education in ways that are intergenerational, intercultural, bilingual, dynamic, experiential, and not necessarily experienced in a traditional classroom setting, including digital ministry.

Brief description

The Canon for Spiritual Formation works with the Dean, clergy, and our key lay leaders to renew and revitalize all aspects of the Cathedral’s formation and educational ministries, including our offerings for children, youth, and adults. In a post-COVID world, our new Canon is in a unique position to help us entirely reimagine formation in ways that are intergenerational, intercultural, bilingual, dynamic, experiential, and not necessarily experienced in a traditional classroom setting.

The Canon has three areas of concentration in their ministry:

  • Empowering the members of Christ Church Cathedral to grow as maturing, faithful disciples of Jesus Christ.
  • Welcoming spiritual seekers and newcomers to the Cathedral in exploring the Christian faith in a safe and open setting.
  • Inviting our downtown neighbors of many different faith backgrounds and no faith backgrounds into meaningful, transformative spiritual conversations and formative experiences.

In doing this work, the Canon will intentionally seek and include a variety of theological voices and leaders that reflect the richness and diversity of our city and community.
