CCC Names HIM By HER to Roster of Outreach Grant Recipient

INDIANAPOLIS—Christ Church Cathedral (CCC) announced today the next recipient of their newly refreshed Outreach Grant program, a partnership comprised of both funding and faithful volunteer engagement. HIM By HER Foundation (HBHF) and its HIM By HER Collegiate School for the Arts (HBHCSA) is the second recipient under CCC’s program. HIM By HER is a community development center that includes an innovative Kindergarten through Sixth Grade school. HBHCSA’s mission is to educate all students with rigorous academics appropriately infused with community commitment and character development necessary for college entry and success, and for productive lives in society.  HIM By HER also endeavors to counteract the “School-to-Prison Pipeline.” While it welcomes all children and their families, it especially seeks to serve marginalized children and families.

The partnership includes a grant along with an additional commitment of time and talent contributions from CCC congregants.

“We are thrilled to partner with HIM By HER and their work to provide a unique, tuition-free afro-centric curriculum rooted in celebrating, honoring, and providing education around the rich and diverse contributions, impact, and achievements of the African American community and culture,” said CCC Canon and Director of Community Relations Mariann Scott. “This partnership is a clear opportunity to dismantle racist systems and we will do so using our time, treasure, and talent.”

CCC’s new approach to granting is centered around the goal to nurture strong partnerships with local nonprofit groups and make a transformative difference in the neighborhoods around us.

Following a year of discernment and intentional conversations with downtown neighbors, conversations with potential nonprofit partners, and parishioner feedback, CCC has faithfully narrowed its outreach efforts for the next three years to three key areas: ministry with people experiencing homelessness, advocating for fair immigration practices, and helping people with immigration needs, and working toward interrupting and ending systemic racism.

“HIM By HER stands for Helping Improve Mankind By Healing Every Race.  If there was ever a time to heal the races for the betterment of mankind, it’s now,” said Gregory Gadson, HIM By HER’s Executive Director.

“CCC’s mission is to glorify God, serve our neighbors, and transform our city,” continued Scott. “And working with HIM By HER is one of the many ways that we faithfully live into the work God is calling us to do each day.”
