Remember, Renew, Rise: Our first draft is ready for your feedback!

Our Cathedral Discernment Team has been prayerfully working throughout the summer to listen, to reflect, and to integrate all that we’ve heard from our six wonderful conversation Sundays with you, our nearly 40 conversations with local nonprofits, neighbors, and diocesan partners, and our demographic research. We’ve wrestled with questions both big and small, and we’ve looked for consistent points of convergence and persistence in all that we’ve heard, learned, seen, and observed. We’re now ready to share our first working draft with you of our proposed vision and key pillars for the next chapter of Christ Church Cathedral this Sunday, Oct. 17 after our 8 a.m., 10 a.m., and 1 p.m. liturgies. (We’ll also host a bilingual make-up session via Zoom on Monday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m. for those who can’t join us on Sunday; please see instructions below to sign up for this session.)

You can take an advanced look at our draft by clicking here.

You’ll notice that it is intentionally not “finished,” and that underneath the proposed key pillars are some conceptual ideas of how those pillars might be brought to life through active ministry. Be thinking about what excites you, what concerns you, and where you could envision investing your time and energy moving forward. We’ll take your feedback and edit the draft later this month into a more final version to pass to our Vestry in November; from there, the Vestry will begin to craft a more comprehensive plan for implementation that we’ll unveil at our Annual Meeting in January. Members of our Vestry will be present for these sessions on Sunday and will be using these listening sessions as our third-quarter check-in.

Throughout it all, we hope you’ll reflect with us on the following question, which we’ve been regularly using throughout our process: What will give most glory to God and be expressive of Christ Church Cathedral’s deepest self, most authentic self?

—The Very Rev. Gray Lesesne, D.Min.

Grateful Together, Giving Together, Growing Together

SUNDAY, OCT. 17 AT 8AM, 10AM AND 1PM

This month, we invite you to learn what a difference your pledges and gifts make to our Covenant Grants ministry as we reflect with gratitude on the many blessings of our lives. This Sunday, we’re delighted to hear from parishioners Kim Striby, and Lety Medina about the practice of giving and the impact it makes in their spiritual growth.

We’re also sharing stories of our impact throughout the week on our Youtube, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to highlight community organizations who transform our collective gifts into life-giving programs and services.

Your pledge dollars in 2021 helped us provide financial assistance to help the Dayspring Center combat and prevent family homelessness by first, meeting their most immediate needs for food and shelter, then working with each family to address the issues that led them to their homelessness. TOMORROW! Salaam | Mosaic: Music from Iraq

SATURDAY, OCT. 16 AT 6:30PM

In advance of this weekend’s concert, Christopher Caruso-Lynch, CCC’s music director, chatted with Salaam band members Dena El Saffar and Tim Moore. Among other topics they discussed the origins of the band and how members who were trained in classical Western music embraced the sounds and rhythms of the Middle East, especially before the advent of the internet, which has made music so much more accessible to wider audiences.

At this Saturday’s concert, the group will evoke the many textures of Arabic and Turkish music with entrancing ancient melodies and infectious grooves. Fascinating stories provide illuminating context for this alluring set of traditional and original Middle Eastern music performed by Salaam.

Commemoration of All Faithful Departed

SUNDAY, NOV. 7 AT 6PM

Since the 10th Century, the church has set aside a day to commemorate the departed: not those Saints with names we pass down through the ages, but the everyday saints in our parishes, in our families, and in our lives. Join us to pray for and remember all the faithful departed. We will pray by name for members of the parish who have died, and for your loved ones, whether they died this year or 20 years ago. We invite you to submit names through the link below. This service will be sung by the Cathedral Choir and will feature music by Spanish-Renaissance composer Tomás Luis de Victoria, among others.

Be Anxious for Nothing: Loss and Joy in Unexpected Change

MONDAY, NOV. 8 AT 7PM

What do the Bible, the Torah, the Qur’an, and Sacred Music say about change? How do we hold space for grief and still find opportunities for joy and growth?

In CCC’s event as part of the Spirit and Place Festival, we’re partnering with the Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation, Progressive Baptist Church, and Masjid al-Mumineen to explore how sacred storytelling and music bring us through the pain and joy of unexpected change.
