Welcome Guest Preacher The Rev. Heidi Haverkamp

SUNDAY, FEB. 20, AT 8 AND 10AM

We’ll welcome The Reverend Heidi Haverkamp to Christ Church Cathedral this Sunday, Feb. 20 at our 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. liturgies. Heidi is a writer, author, spiritual director, and Episcopal priest. She writes an occasional newsletter called Letters from a Part-time Hermit.

In 2020, Heidi moved to Indianapolis to be near a growing cluster of friends and to pursue some other opportunities. She is working on a new book series, called Everyday Connections, a year-long devotional for each of the three lectionary years (A, B, C), based on the excellent new sermon commentary series, Connections. As a spiritual director, she meets with folks to puzzle through their spiritual questions, struggles, and wonderings.

After the 10 a.m. liturgy, join Heidi and Christ Church Cathedral’s own Dan Hoffman in our Cathedral Forum for an Introduction to Spiritual Direction. Spiritual direction is an ancient spiritual practice of companionship, listening, questioning, and conversation that empowers people to live their faith more fully. Both Heidi and Dan will share about their spiritual direction practices and share with you how spiritual direction could enhance your own faith journey.

Announcing the 2022 Vestry Officers

At their Feb. 15 meeting, Vestry members approved officers for the coming year. Dean Gray Lesesne appointed Jude Magers to serve as Senior Warden for one year, and the Vestry elected Andrea Hunley to serve as Junior Warden for one year.

The Vestry also asked Irma Petrosino to continue her work as treasurer and Merrill Grayson to continue as clerk. Irma has served as the Cathedral’s treasurer for many years and oversees the Finance Committee. Merrill, a former Vestry member, most recently became the clerk in 2021.

We are deeply grateful to these volunteers for pledging their time and talents to benefit the Cathedral.

Christopher Pitts Trio: Perspectives on the Piano

Enjoy Pancakes at Church

SUNDAY, FEB. 27, AT 11:30AM

Lent is right around the corner, which means it’s pancake season at Christ Church Cathedral! Come enjoy a simple pancake breakfast, prepared by our youth, with your CCC family.

Volunteers are needed to cook, serve and clean! No experience necessary! Contact Anne Tordai.

Pancakes are historically associated with Shrove Tuesday, the day preceding Lent, because they are a way to use up rich foods such as eggs, milk, and sugar, before the fasting season of the 40 days of Lent.

Looking Ahead to Lent

Lent starts on Ash Wednesday, March 2, and it is an excellent time to step back and take stock of your spiritual life. Your Cathedral leaders are working hard to develop meaningful activities what will help you deepen your connections to God and God’s beloved creation.

On Ash Wednesday, CCC will offer four worship services with imposition of ashes: 7 a.m., 12:05 p.m., 5:30 p.m., and 7:30 p.m. in Spanish. In addition, we will offer “Ashes to Go,” the imposition of ashes for all passers-by, at four locations in and near downtown Indianapolis. These public offerings are just one step in our goal to be more visible to our downtown neighbors.

Attendees are asked to read the book in advance. Complimentary paperback copies are available at the church, or you can purchase a paperback or Kindle copy from Amazon.

Meetings will take place at the Phoenix Theater Community Centre at 705 N Illinois St, Indianapolis, IN 46204.
