Lent 2021 at Christ Church Cathedral

If ever we needed to move from disorder to order, from despair to hope, Lent 2021 is it. After more than a year in pandemic quarantine, none of us are strangers to the wilderness road. As spring approaches, as more of us receive the COVID-19 vaccine, and as days lengthen, the Cathedral community joyfully walks together through the wilderness during this forty day season, with our hearts firmly set on the joy and splendor of Easter.

— The Very Rev. Gray Lesesne, D.Min.

The Rev. Dr. Leah Gunning Francis preaches this Sunday

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 21 @ 10 AM

We’re delighted to welcome The Rev. Dr. Leah Gunning Francis to Christ Church Cathedral’s pulpit this Sunday at 10 AM and afterwards for a Lenten CoffeeTalk at 11 AM. She is the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty at Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Dr. Gunning Francis is also the author of the book Ferguson and Faith: Sparking Leadership and Awakening Community (Chalice Press, 2015), for which she interviewed more than two dozen clergy and young activists who were actively involved in the movement for racial justice in Ferguson and beyond. Her second book, Faith After Ferguson: Building Resilience and Cultivating Wisdom (Chalice Press, 2021) is scheduled to be released this summer. As a “scholarvist,” Dr. Gunning Francis is actively engaged in the movement for racial justice in the United States and seeks to make the connections between the church, academy and streets in her writing, teaching and preaching.

Sunday Lenten CoffeeTalks

SUNDAYS @ 11-11:45 AM

As we walk together through the wilderness, we need the energy and joy of good companions to accompany us. Pour yourself a second (or third) cuppa and join us for a lively Zoom conversation about each Sunday’s Scripture lessons and sermon from 11:00-11:45 a.m.. What did you hear? What sticks with you, and where are you still pondering? What is God inviting you to do next?

Christ Church Cathedral 101 starts this Sunday!

SUNDAYS, FEBRUARY 21, 28, AND MARCH 7 @ 4 PM

Are you new to Christ Church Cathedral? Welcome! CCC 101 is our new on-ramp course to plug in more deeply, learn more about us, and help you make connections. It is our basic “membership information class,” though, of course, there is no pressure to join anything. Instead, CCC 101 is a space for storytelling, pondering questions, trying on spiritual practices and learning about CCC, the Episcopal Church and the Christian tradition in the context of community. We will meet virtually via Zoom on Sunday evenings from 4-5:30 PM beginning February 21 and running for 3 weeks, through March 7.

Lenten Daily Devotions

Each weekday morning, a member of the Cathedral’s clergy offers an email meditation for these wilderness times. As winter starts to fade and as spring emerges, our intention is that each of us begins to experience the light and joy that will come with the new life of Easter. However, to get to Easter, we must first walk through the wilderness, and our daily devotions will serve as bread for the journey.

If you’re not already receiving the devotions, email us and we’ll add you to our list.

Centering Prayer is regathering

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 22 @ 5:30 PM

Join us via Zoom as the Centering Prayer group regathers.
We will meet for a time of reflection and meditation, followed by a discussion on plans for contemplative prayer in 2021. We will conclude at 6:30 p.m. We have not met as a group since March of 2020, and this will be an opportunity to reconnect, check-in, and rest in God’s presence together. Please RSVP to Michael Landon. If you are unable to attend this session but wish to be part of the group in the future, please let us know that as well.

Concerts return

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 27 @ 6:30 PM

Join us for an evening of chamber music for strings and continuo. CCC welcomes baroque violinists Sarah Cranor, Alice Culin-Ellison, Alejandro Gomez Guillen, and cellist Joanna Blendulf for a program of charming, and often quirky, chamber music, including Pachabel’s Canon like you’ve never heard it before!
