The Heart of God

Every day we see news about terrible things that are happening in our world: wars, diseases, violence. The idea of a God who surrounds us and protects us to save us from danger may seem strange to many people who suffer and wonder if God really loves them. The image of a mother hen taking her responsibility to protect her chicks very seriously may be familiar to you, especially if you grew up in an environment like this. But what if not? This Sunday, join us in learning that this is how God feels about us: like a mother who gives her life for her children. Let’s discover together the heart that Jesus has for every human being.

–The Rev. Hipolito Fernandez Reina

Lent At CCC

Although Lent has historically been a time to practice self-denial and privation, some modern adherents use Lent as a time for self-reflection and self-improvement. CCC offers several such opportunities in the coming weeks. In addition, the sermons and Sunday forums throughout Lent will allow us to focus on the five pillars of the strategic plan that was revealed at the end of January. During our forum hour Canon Mariann Scott and Dean Gray Lesesne will lead us in a discussion on the second pillar and what it means to extend “radical hospitality.”

Meditations in Homes

FRIDAYS AT 6PM

During the Fridays of Lent, members will gather in parishioners’ homes to meditate on the five pillars of the Cathedral’s strategic plan and how it connects with the journey of Lent. We also come together to pray for our personal requests as well as the needs of the congregation, our community, the country, and the entire world. For more information, contact Verónica Godínez. (These evenings will be primarily in Spanish.)

Book Discussion: “Be the Bridge: Pursuing God’s Heart for Racial Reconciliation”

STARTS WEDNESDAY, MARCH 16

Looking for a place to start in your own journey toward racial reconciliation? “Be the Bridge: Pursuing God’s Heart for Racial Reconciliation” was written specifically for Christians wrestling with hard truths. This book discussion group, led by Tim Culbertson and Cynthia Madison, will challenge participants in a safe, supportive environment to examine how we may participate in perpetuating racial disparity and how we can participate in the transformative work of reconciliation.

Attendees are asked to read the book in advance. Complimentary paperback copies are available at the church, or you can purchase a paperback or Kindle copy from Amazon.

Meetings will take place at the Phoenix Theater Cultural Centre at 705 N Illinois St, Indianapolis, IN 46204.

The Choir School at CCC Launches Next Fall

As part of his annual address on Sunday, Jan. 30, Dean Gray Lesesne mentioned that one of CCC’s newest initiatives will be establishing a choir school at Christ Church Cathedral. This after-school program for students grades 3 through 8 will launch at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year. Participants will receive musical instruction, vocal training, homework help and meals five days a week. It is our hope that the choir school will provide formational opportunities for students’ social and emotional learning, including teamwork, focus, persistence, and accountability, and it will be a resource for parents and students, connecting them with necessary community services.

Children interested in The Choir School have a wonderful opportunity to get to know the music program during CCC’s annual music summer camp, Joyful Noise, a two-week long program which takes place May 25-27, and May 31-June 3. This is a free music camp open to rising third graders through rising eighth graders in the Indianapolis area.
