Mothering Sunday

Over time, Mothering Sunday has become an occasion to bring together not only the spiritual community, but families. What echo can it have in our society, affected by clashes, conflicts and violence of all kinds, to find in the Gospel a God who deeply desires to connect and bring his children together at the same table? On the fourth Sunday in Lent, join us in discovering how God lovingly seeks to build a happy human family.

–The Reverend Hipólito Fernández Reina

REGATHERING UPDATE: Masks Optional

As of Sunday, March 27, face masks will be optional for all vaccinated individuals. We are so very excited to see smiling faces at the church! (Masks are still required for those who are unvaccinated.)

We greatly appreciate the patience and cooperation of everyone over the last two years to ensure the safety of all our members and visitors. We will continue to keep an eye on the transmission and positivity rates in central Indiana, adjusting our guidelines as needed.

TOMORROW: Explore our neighborhood!

SATURDAY, MARCH 26, 9AM-NOON

Grab your walking shoes and join us for our Lenten Quiet Morning – tomorrow, from 9 a.m. to noon. The Rev. Cathy Scott, Deacon at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, Indianapolis, will lead us in a series of walks around the neighborhood and meditations here in the Cathedral, with plenty of time for restful breaks and contemplation in between. As we live into our new congregational mission of glorifying God, serving our neighbors, and transforming our city, our quiet morning will invite us to see ourselves and our neighborhood with new eyes. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and to bring a jacket if you’re planning to walk with us. Sign up today so we can be sure to have plenty of goodies and coffee for you.

Racial Equity Workshop: A Groundwater Presentation

SATURDAY, APRIL 30, 9AM TO NOON

In this virtual webinar hosted by CCC, organizers from the Racial Equity Institute will use stories and data to present a perspective that racism is fundamentally structural in nature. The Groundwater metaphor is designed to help participants at all levels internalize the reality that we live in a racially structured society, and that that is what causes racial inequity. The metaphor is based on three observations:

  • racial inequity looks the same across systems,
  • socio-economic difference does not explain the racial inequity; and,
  • inequities are caused by systems, regardless of people’s culture or behavior.

Embracing these truths helps leaders confront the reality that all our systems, institutions, and outcomes emanate from the racial hierarchy, on which the United States was built. In other words, we have a “groundwater” problem, and we need “groundwater” solutions. Starting from there, we begin to unlock transformative change.
