JULY 1, 2022

The Kingdom of God has come near.

The Gospel writer for the next several weeks has us in a 10-chapter journey with Jesus to Jerusalem. In this week’s lesson we learn that he just appointed 70 others to go ahead of him to every town where he was intending to go. In it we see these fresh new disciples being prepared for what they may meet; where some will welcome them, others will reject them. Jesus prepares them for the ministry ahead and what they may encounter because he knows the human heart is fickle and bent toward hope and despair, sometimes in the same breath.

The ministry of discipleship has never been and never will be about making people happy, fixing the hurts of the world once and for all, or having a magic spell to erase the pain. What we do have promised to us, from creation through Pentecost, is that God is with us and intercedes for us, as Paul writes to the Romans, with sighs too deep for words. We can be of good courage as we face the work of being agents of peace and reconciliation and remember that “the Kingdom of God has come near.”

Stained Glass Project Continues

Last week, crews began the extensive project to add a protective covering to CCC’s stained glass windows. This week, the small stained glass panel that was broken last Thanksgiving was successfully replaced. It is expected that the project will wrap up around July 20. During this time, there will be scaffolding, lifts, and various construction items on the front lawn. While the process may seem messy, it will help maintain our beautiful windows for years to come! We thank you for your patience through this process.
