Sacred Space Yoga: Get To Know Rachel

Rachel Hedges has been leading the Sacred Space Yoga classes at Christ Church Cathedral since October of 2017.

As a downtown resident, she has enjoyed bringing the practice of yoga to both the Cathedral sanctuary and the church lawn, and looking forward to returning to those very special, and sacred places as soon as possible.

Rachel was introduced to yoga as a music student at the University of Indianapolis when she discovered a book by Christian monk, Jean-Marie Déchanet in the library. Drawn, to the calm of the breathing and posture exercises, she found that the practice of yoga deepended her experience of prayer. Déchanet’s book paved the way for her yoga practice which continues to encourage her students to hold listening and reflection in tandem with body awareness and fitness.

Rachel has intensively studied the methods of Bikram and Baptiste yoga, as well as the Iyengar lineage and Yin yoga. She completed a 200 hour RYT training at The Hot Room in Indianapolis, in the style of Baptiste yoga. Her classes are focused on accessibility and understanding that every body will have a different experience of practice, and that your inner voice is your ultimate teacher. She also believes that it is important to have fun and laugh during yoga!

Beyond the yoga mat, Rachel also enjoys running, riding her bike and hiking. She works as an artist and toy maker, creating sustainable work from repurposed and up-cycled materials. Learn about her artistic process at www.bebitotoys.com
