Dear Cathedral Community and Friends,
I’m writing today to inform you that I have been called by the Rt. Rev. Michael Hunn, Bishop of the Diocese of the Rio Grande, to serve as his next Canon to the Ordinary. My last Sunday here at Christ Church will be Sunday July 21st.
The Diocese of the Rio Grande is comprised of far West Texas, and the whole of the state of New Mexico- with over 50 parishes and over 40% of the U.S/Mexico border. The Diocese of the Rio Grande is prioritizing many of the things that we have grown in here at Christ Church Cathedral- making our Communities reflect the full diversity of our neighborhoods, reaching out to our Immigrant neighbors, and living into the fullness of one community in two languages.
These last four years have taught me more than I could have imagined. I will go into this next phase of my ministry, and of my family’s life, carrying what I have learned here on the Circle. Y’all have helped raise me up into the priest I am today, and for that I am remarkably grateful. We have taken risks together, tried new things, rejoiced, wept, and prayed through it all. Thank you for your work, your companionship, and your faithfulness.
I know that one more transition seems like just one more in a series of hits to our common life. I hear and respect that sentiment. Know that I am just as sure as I have ever been that this Cathedral is growing more and more into the Community that God is calling it to be. You already have the leadership you need. You already know what it means to widen the Circle of God’s embrace. You already know what it is to love radically, welcome boldly, and serve generously. I know this because I have seen you live it, and it is woven into who you are as a community. It is that servant spirit, and bold faithfulness that I will carry with me into this next step of my ministry.
