Special Announcement: Fr. Jean C. Beniste

Dear people of Christ Church Cathedral,

It is with a bittersweet heart that I write this letter to let you know that I have accepted a call to become the Rector of Christ Episcopal Church Waukegan, in the Diocese of Chicago. My last day as Canon to the Latino Ministry at will be Saturday, March 7th, 2020 and my last Sunday will be February 23rd

There are not enough words to express my gratitude for your support, friendship, and the hospitality you have shared with me and my family.

In my time working with you as Canon for the Latino Ministry, I have experienced your faithful commitment to the different ministries at Christ Church; from Faith in Indiana to the support of our brothers and sisters in Brazil, Haiti, and Mexico. I have seen the level of commitment to fundraise in order to help others (Strawberry Festival) and I have renewed my belief  that we can work together as one body united in Christ. I feel inspired by all of you and your love for God and our community.

Our cross-cultural experience has allowed us to build personal relationships that reach beyond languages, races, ethnic backgrounds, and cultural differences. I would like to invite you to continue working as one in order to abolish the barriers that separate us one from another.

It has been a blessing and an honor to serve you as a priest over the past few years. I will treasure the memories of our time together and will pray for the health, growth, and well-being of each one of the parishioners at Christ Church Cathedral.

Please know that before leaving, I will do all that is in my power to promote a smooth transition. If  you need to speak with me on any matter, please do not hesitate to contact me in person, by phone, or by email at

May these changes in our church community invite us to start a new journey with Christ, to follow the star, to share what we are and what we have, and to look for the future with faith.

Once again, thank you very much for your support, friendship, and hospitality.  Monica, the girls, and I will continue to pray for your ministry at Christ Church Cathedral, the community of Indianapolis, the Episcopal Diocese of Indianapolis, and the larger church.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
