Brendan Conner joined the Cathedral staff in 2020 as Senior Organ Scholar. He is a doctoral student at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, studying organ with Christopher Young and harpsichord with Elisabeth Wright. Brendan earned his master’s degree in organ performance from IU in 2018. A native of San Diego, he graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 2016 where he studied organ and harpsichord with George Emblom and Davitt Moroney.
Before joining CCC, Brendan served as the Director of Music at the Church of the Nativity in Indianapolis. He is an active recitalist, and in 2020, he was selected as a semi-finalist in the American Guild of Organists’ National Young Artists Competition. This competition stretches back 50 years and promotes the highest level of organ performance. It is intended as a springboard for young artists.
When playing the organ, Brendan gravitates towards the music of the Baroque era, being particularly fond of Johann Sebastian Bach and Nicolaus Bruhns. When not playing the organ or otherwise studying or working, Brendan enjoys spending time in the great outdoors.
Brendan plays music for Advent on the Cathedral’s Ruth Lilly Memorial Gallery Organ by Taylor & Boody in December 2020.
