On April 26, the Christ Church Cathedral Vestry voted to provide a grant to Waycross Camp & Conference Center in the amount of $25,000. This grant was in response to a request submitted by Waycross Executive Director David Ramsey in February 2022.
Like many organizations, Waycross was hit hard by the economic repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic. For the first time in their 60+ year history, Waycross was forced to cancel the entire camp season in 2020. Last year, the center reopened for a shortened season of camp and a combined Women’s Week. This grant from CCC will be used in part to reopen the popular climbing wall and zip-line, help offset inflationary pressures for part-time staff, hire new kitchen and maintenance personnel and underwrite staff training. Now, because of the generosity of the Cathedral, Waycross is able to host four full sessions of adventure camp and welcome close to 85% of pre-pandemic camper numbers.
Christ Church Cathedral has long supported the mission and ministry of Waycross. Countless parishioners recall fond memories of their time there as children, time there on parish retreats, or time attending adult development programs there. We are happy that we are able to help provide such experiences for new generations of church leaders — both lay and ordained.
