Welcome to our two new priest associates. A priest associate is an experienced priest or deacons who for various reasons are not incumbents in their own church. They may include those who are in full-time secular employment, those who hold administrative posts within the diocese, or those who are currently discerning a call.
The Rev. Thomas Kryder-Ried will be assisting with Stephen Ministry and pastoral care. Tom is a retired priest working part-time to oversee the Cathedral’s pastoral ministries. Educated at Syracuse University, the University of Chicago, and Virginia Theological Seminary, he served congregations in Washington DC and Baltimore before moving to Indianapolis where he was rector of Trinity Church for 14 years. He recently finished a stint as interim rector of Holy Trinity Church in Oxford, Ohio. Tom’s wife Liz is a professor of anthropology at IUPUI; their children are Emily, Caroline, and Grace. For leisure, Tom enjoys music, rowing and running, reading fiction and non-fiction, and he’ a long-time IndyCar and Formula One fan.
The Rev. Mary Slenski loves bringing old things together in new ways; and then, watching the glow on people’s faces when they recognize what’s been in plain sight. She believes in the power of story, especially God’s story and how it connects with our own story. A Detroit native, who grew up in Florida, she enjoys quilting. A downtown parish was home before ordination so, she’s pleased to be part of the Cathedral while awaiting her next appointment to a congregation.
