Christ Church Cathedral is delighted to welcome Canon Bruce Neswick as our Artist-in-Residence for the months of February-May 2024. Canon Neswick will be leading many of our Choir School rehearsals and will serve as our conductor and organist on selected weekdays and Sundays, including our performance of Dido and Aeneas in April. Bruce is in tremendous demand throughout the country as organist, improviser, choral conductor and trainer, commissioned composer, and hymn festival leader. He is a musician whose playing vibrates with energy, is full of radiant color, and always expertly crafted. As well, he’s very funny and clever and brings joy to his work.

Bruce is no stranger to the choir school tradition. From 2014 to 2022, he was Canon for Music at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Portland, Oregon, where he led a program very similar to ours at Christ Church Cathedral. Prior to this appointment he was Associate Professor of Organ Music at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music. He now resides in San Diego, California and serves as Artist-in-Residence at Church of St. James-by-the-Sea in La Jolla.

Meanwhile, a more formal search is underway for a year-long interim director of music who will lead us while our congregation spends time in reflection and discernment for the exciting future of our music ministry.
